Maria Carpio was one of our runners up in the Comfort Keepers Home Care “Carer of the Year” 2014. To be in the final four out of over 1200 carers is a wonderful achievement and we’d like to congratulate Maria on doing so well.
Here’s Maria’s HomeCare story:
Originally from Spain, Maria has been working with Comfort Keepers for eighteen months. Previous to being a home carer, she worked as a childminder and as a carer for her father. Having always wanted to work in healthcare, Maria has completed her FETAC course and intends to apply to college to do nursing. Her experience in home care should give her an immense advantage both in the interview process and when completing her nursing training. Having met Maria, it is clear that she is ideally suited to working in a caring healthcare role.
Maria was especially delighted that the quality of her work has been recognised and rewarded. Telling me that her public health nurses and her clients were all agog and waiting to hear how she got on shows how much they all think of her.
Maria attends to seven clients, working in the Dublin South area she walks or cycles to see them, providing them with a mix of personal care and companionship within her high quality home care. She enjoys spending time with her clients and indeed, she corrected herself when she said that, saying that they are not clients, but friends.
Maria’s attention to detail, caring personality, friendly nature and quiet exuberence are part of the reasons why she is an award-winning Carer of the Year. Not only does she find the work fulfilling but her clients appreciate her hugely too.
