Comfort Keepers Seeking Home Carers

The Ploughing Championships is over and we will be announcing the winner of the iPad over on our Facebook page on Monday. We had a busy few days chatting to people about a variety of issues. While we like to think that people are aware of the Comfort Keepers name and what we do, it was great to have that confirmed at the Ploughing Championships as we rarely needed to explain what we do.

We were there for a couple of different reasons. As we become busier with more clients, we need more professional homecarers so we felt this festival provided the ideal opportunity to chat to people who might be thinking of working as carers but haven’t quite taken steps as yet to investigate what it involves. We found that many people are interested but were particularly unsure about the training required. We were able to reassure them that Comfort Keepers subsidises up to 80% of the cost of the training. We also have reduced rates and various payment methods for training via our in-house training company at Elevation Training. We had Human Resources staff there to talk about the training, the application process and answer any questions. We had home carers there too to share their experiences of caring and explain exactly what is involved in the role.

We had a number of queries from adult children regarding getting respite or regular home care from professionals for help with their parents or elderly relatives. Many hadn’t enquired before but can now go home feeling better informed about options for the future, and therefore reassured too.

It was the first time Comfort Keepers has exhibited at the Ploughing Championships and it certainly is a remarkable festival with over 250,000 people there over the three days on the 800 acre site. It is quite amazing that so many people (not necessarily farmers) travel from all corners of Ireland to it every year. If you didn’t make it this year, don’t forget you can contact us via our Facebook page or visit our Job Vacancies page on our website.
