Becoming a Carer with Comfort Keepers usually involves six stages:
Online application
Phone interview
In-person interview
Reference checks and Garda vetting
Induction and training
Shadow visits.
You do not need prior care qualifications because we provide training through our QQI-accredited programme with Elevation Training.
Carers support older persons and individuals with disabilities to live safely and comfortably at home.
Overview:
The recruitment process often takes a few weeks, and Garda vetting can take several weeks.
Apply online through our Careers or Apply Now page and choose the county that suits you.
You can apply without care qualifications, and interviews focus on empathy, reliability, and communication.
Flexible working hours make these positions suitable for students and those balancing other commitments.
Many rural posts need a full driving licence and access to a car.
Your Client Coordinator will support you during initial shadow visits.
We will also cover pay rates, paid mileage between visits, and weekend and bank holiday premium rates where they apply.
Do you enjoy helping others and bringing empathy, patience, and a caring nature to your work? Have you been thinking about a career in homecare in Ireland? Comfort Keepers may suit you.
The Comfort Keepers Hiring Process
We always welcome new Carers as more families look for homecare support, and the Comfort Keepers recruitment process is quite simple. The steps below show what to expect from the application during your first visits.
Step 1 - Applying Online for a Carer Position
Start with our Careers page to view current vacancies and choose the location that suits you. Our teams provide homecare across Ireland, so you can look for locations near you.
Questioning Your Next Career Move
You might be in the college library between lectures, scrolling job boards and feeling stuck. Many posts ask for qualifications you do not have yet. Then you see a Comfort Keepers vacancy that highlights training and puts compassion first.
Flexible hours can fit around your timetable, and supporting someone to stay independent at home can feel like meaningful work.
In your application, outline your experience so far and the direction you want your career to take. If you do not have prior qualifications in the area, do not worry, we provide training before you start visits.
We can teach practical skills through induction and ongoing support. Interviews focus on the personal qualities that make a great Carer, such as empathy, respect, and reliability.
Who Can Apply?
People join us from many backgrounds, including students and career changers. Flexible hours can work well alongside study, family life, or other commitments. We currently accept applications from candidates who live in Ireland and have the legal right to work in Ireland.
Requirements for Rural Areas
Many rural posts need a full driving licence and access to a car.
Tip: Make sure to read the full job description before you apply to be a carer to ensure it's for the position you're interested in.
Step 2 - The Phone Interview
Once we receive and review your application, an interviewer will get in contact for a brief chat over the phone. During this call, we will ask a few questions, give you more details on the work of a carer, and talk through the day-to-day work, pay rates, and the hours available
Tip: Read over the job description and your application again to prepare for the phone interview and any questions you may need to answer.
Step 3 - The In-Person Interview
After the phone interview, you will be called to an in-person interview. At this interview, you will answer questions so we can confirm you are a good match for the Carer position.
Scenario-Based Questions
Some of the Comfort Keepers interview questions may be scenario-based, eg., “What would you do if [insert scenario] happened?” These prompts help us see how you think through situations a Carer can face during day-to-day work.
Required Documents for Interview
It is important to bring your documents with you to the interview. These documents include your application form, your references, your Garda vetting form and, if necessary, your visa to work in Ireland.
Tip: Prepare a few real examples that show your communication, reliability, and respect for others. Think through common situations such as privacy, changes to a routine, or delays, then talk them over with someone you trust.
Step 4 - References and Garda Vetting
If you are successful in the interview, we will request references and start Garda vetting. Garda vetting can take several weeks, so the overall timeline can vary.
Tip: To make the process quicker, be sure to bring your Garda vetting form to the interview so as to avoid any delays.
Step 5 - Training and Induction
Once your documents are in place, we will schedule your induction sessions. Induction covers Comfort Keepers' policies, safeguarding, privacy, manual handling, and day-to-day practice.
We provide comprehensive training in QQI Level 5 modules, including Care Skills and Care of the Older Person. These qualifications are nationally recognised across Irish healthcare settings and meet HSE employment standards.
Assessment and Completion
You will complete short learning checks during induction so you feel ready to begin visits.
Step 6 - Shadow Visits and Onboarding
The final step! At this point, you will meet your Client Coordinator and complete a starter checklist.
Meeting the People You Will Support
Your Client Coordinator will arrange your first shadow visits so you can meet the people you will support and learn each care plan in context. Many placements involve supporting the same people each week, based on their needs and your availability.
