What is homecare?
Although homecare can refer to medical support in the home, it’s a broad term. More often than not homecare covers a range of non-medical services, like those that Comfort Keepers provides. These include personal care, companionship, and housekeeping duties. In a nutshell, homecare covers any extra help you or a loved one might need to carry on living a fulfilled and independent life at home. A team of experienced professionals from healthcare or social care backgrounds put together all care plans for our clients. Our highly qualified Clinical Nurse Managers oversee this whole process.

What do our care teams do?
Our team of care professionals provide in-home support to older people and people with a disability who require assistance. This support helps maintain both physical and mental wellbeing in the comfort and familiarity of home, with the aim of enabling individuals to live independently and with dignity for as long as possible.
Care professionals offer companionship and assist with personal care, mobility support, safety, meal preparation, light housework, and everyday errands. Their presence encourages social interaction, supports routine and structure, and promotes overall wellbeing.
What is the difference between a Carer, a Home Carer, and a Home Support Worker?
You may come across different terms like Carer, Home Carer, Home Support Worker, or Healthcare Assistant. While the titles may vary, they all refer to the same role—providing support with daily tasks and personal care in the home. These terms are often used interchangeably across the sector.

Many of our team members bring experience from both personal and professional care settings. While we support ongoing training and development for those new to the sector, we also take steps to hire candidates with relevant qualifications or a background in care.
What kind of training do Comfort Keepers receive?
All care professionals receive comprehensive training before starting their role. This begins with a structured induction programme that covers the essential skills needed to deliver safe, person-centred support in the home.
As part of our commitment to quality, every member of the care team is required to complete a minimum of two QQI-accredited modules if they don’t already hold a relevant qualification.
Training doesn’t end after induction. We offer ongoing development through a mix of in-person and online courses to ensure our team stays current with best practices.
Comfort Keepers also operates its own in-house training company, allowing us to deliver high-quality, tailored education that supports the real-life needs of the people we care for.
Getting Started
How do I get started with Comfort Keepers and are there any initial fees?
Our lives can change rapidly at times where we might need a lot of support to maintain the life we want, or we might just need a little support to simply to stay independent, confident, and connected to the community we love. This is where our services and team can really step in and help. It can be short term or longer term, whenever someone needs support whether it is an hour a day, 5 hours, overnight or 24/7. CK provide person-centred services 365 days of the year, and we work to find the best solution for you.Â

When are Comfort Keepers’ carers available?
Care is available 7 days a week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on your needs. Whether you require support for an hour a day or longer, we can tailor a schedule that works for you.
What if I don’t feel comfortable with my assigned care professional?
We understand that a good match is important. Your visits should feel positive and supportive. If, for any reason, you feel the care professional assigned isn’t the right fit, just let us know. We’ll work with you to arrange a suitable alternative—your comfort and peace of mind are our priority.
How can I be sure that my carer will always arrive on time?
Comfort Keepers operates a highly sophisticated telemonitoring system. It alerts our head office in the event of someone not clocking into a visit on time. This allows us to react swiftly and resolve any issues as quickly as possible.
What happens if my regular carer is sick or unavailable?
Our aim is to provide maximum consistency but sometimes we may have to replace your carer with someone else. We will try our hardest to keep this kind of disruption as infrequent as we can.
How can my Carer help with my medication?
Our care professionals are not medical staff, so in most cases, they cannot prescribe, dispense, or administer medication. However, they can provide reminders and prompts to help you stay on track with your medication routine as directed by your healthcare provider.
In some situations where more complex support is needed, this will be discussed with you during your consultation to ensure the right arrangements are in place.
Financing, Payment & Taxation
I have a HSE Homecare Package. Can I make Comfort Keepers my provider?
Yes, you can. Comfort Keepers is an approved HSE home support provider nationwide. Once your HSE Home Support Package is approved, a provider can either be randomly assigned, or you can request Comfort Keepers as your preferred provider.
You can also choose Comfort Keepers through the Consumer Directed Home Support (CDHS) option. This gives you more choice and flexibility in selecting who provides your care.

Is there any help available to pay for the homecare services I need?
Yes, there are several ways to get help with the cost of home support services.
If you are aged 65 or over, you may be eligible for the HSE Home Support Service. This service provides a certain number of home support hours free of charge, and it is not means-tested. Comfort Keepers is an approved HSE provider, and you may be able to request us to deliver your care.
If you are under 65 or need more hours than what the HSE provides, there may be tax relief available to help with private home support costs.
For people living with a disability, there are also supports available through the HSE or the Department of Social Protection. This may include payments such as Disability Allowance (DA), which can be used to help pay for home support services.

Who handles tax and insurance for my care professional?
All care professionals with Comfort Keepers are directly employed by us. This means we take care of everything related to tax, insurance, and other employment matters—so you don’t have to.
As a fully managed service, we ensure our care professionals are properly trained and supported by experienced managers and clinical staff. This helps us provide safe, high-quality support to every person we care for.
