Comfort Keepers are taking part in Focus Ireland’s Shine A Light Night 2017

Shine A Light Night 2017

Shine A Light Night 2017

On October 13th, the staff here at Comfort Keepers will be sleeping out in our place of work to highlight the issue of homelessness in Ireland, as part of the Shine A Light Night 2017 campaign.

Shine A Light Night is a truly touching event where the Irish business community come together for one night to raise vital funds for Focus Ireland, and to stand in solidarity with the staggering number of people experiencing homelessness across the country today.

Focus Ireland are fantastic charity that we are proud to support. They work with people who are homeless or are at risk of losing their homes across Ireland each and every day. The work that they do is driven by the fundamental belief that homelessness is wrong. Their core mission states that homelessness is “Wrong because it is a failure of society that creates victims out of ordinary people and robs them of their potential. Wrong because it can be prevented, it can be solved but is allowed to continue and in doing so, undermines society” and we stand by this belief too.

Our CEO Brid Gould will be joining other CEOs, GMs and MDs of Google, Facebook, Toyota and more at the Business Leaders Sleep-out at Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral. See how the Christ Church sleep-out went last year in the video below.

The most recent figures show a record total of 8,160 people are homeless at the moment in Ireland, with the total number of people homeless rising by 25% from July 2016 to July 2017. Nationally there are now 5,187 adults and 2,973 children homeless, meaning more than 1 in 3 people experiencing homelessness in Ireland is a child. Family homelessness has reached historic proportions with 2,777 children currently living in emergency accommodation in Ireland, often unable to get to school, rarely getting a home cooked meal and sinking into darkness. Therefore we are joining Focus Ireland and our peers to help shine a light of hope on Ireland’s changing landscape of homelessness.
